Report on the first Big History Summer Institute: Dominican University of California. May 26-June 4, 2010 (Cynthia Stokes Brown)

Zusammenfassung

At the end of spring semester, 2010, Dominican University of California, in San Rafael, CA (Bay Area), held the first known summer institute to prepare enough faculty for teaching a newly required first-year course sequence. The sequence included a freshman survey course in Big History in the fall of 2010, followed by a choice of discipline-based Big History-themed courses. All courses needed to be developed, in a new four-semester sequence of general education, with the initial two devoted to Big History and the following two to Shaping the Future. With an expected freshman class of about 335, and a class size of 20-22, about fifteen instructors for the initial survey course would be needed.
